Changes in coral distributions in response to anthropogenic impacts
Dedi Parenden is based at the Hasanuddin University in Makassar, Indonesia, where he also completed a Bachelor and Master in Marine Management. He also worked as a lecturer in the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, University of Papua in Manokwari, West Papua.
His research within the 4D-REEF programme is focused on studying the distribution and characteristics of hard coral species in the Spermonde Archipelago. He will analyse the adaptation mechanisms of species that are able to survive in turbid waters. Dedi will measure parameters such as coral cover, benthic community composition, water quality, growth rate and survival of corals along a gradient of turbid water quality gradient as well as by looking at physiological data of coral species. The final results of his study are expected to provide a restoration design model for hard coral species.
